Five Interesting Movies For Entrepreneurs With Big Dreams
When we think of business and finance, we often associate it with serious matters that need a lot of reading and being updated about recent trends. It is true, but at the same time, you don’t always have to learn through big, boring tomes about technical business jargon and theories. Who says learning has to be always boring and from books?
Try out all kinds of unconventional ways of learning and see if it works for you instead of just sitting down and reading for hours. Visual representation tends to have a bigger impact on our minds — why else do you think videos are trending these days on social media? With that said, one of the best ways to learn and be entertained is through movies. If you’re an entrepreneur with big dreams for your career, here are our top picks that will hopefully inspire you further!
Wall Street
This legendary movie centers around life in Wall Street. As we are all aware, Wall Street is all about acquiring power, being wealthy, and aiming to earn more. However, this is a vicious neverending cycle that often takes us down with it and gives a powerful message. The glamorous lifestyle of the rich and the famous might be alluring, but if we become greedy and never be happy with what we have, then we cannot have any mental peace and happiness.
Erin Brokovich
Julia Roberts’ brilliant performance in Erin Brokovich fetched her an Oscar, and the movie became iconic for female empowerment. A single mother without a job is desperate for a job and ends up being a file clerk for a law firm. But she doesn’t stop at that. She goes far beyond her means, working extremely hard to find out a secret that is affecting thousands of people. Erin Brokovich stood up for what she believed and defended her opinion with all her heart. That is something all entrepreneurs should learn. There will be a lot of obstacles in your path, but if you have faith in yourself, you will be able to overcome them eventually!
The Godfather
While many might not be able to relate business with the classic mafia movie, The Godfather, it is actually quite relatable. The film shows how Godfather a.k.a. Vito Corleone builds a huge organization out of a small family business. It is the way he built huge networks with people that helps him all the time. He lends a hand to people who need it, and they return the favor when he needs it. Relationships play a very important role in the movie, and it shows us how businesses can benefit from their networking efforts.
The Pursuit Of Happyness
The real-life story of Chris Gardner can be an inspiration for anyone and not just an entrepreneur. Chris is left with his child when his wife leaves him and the IRS takes away his wages. He is left with pretty much nothing and rendered homeless, too. The struggles of being without a home with a son and trying to find a safe place for him is really moving but even more motivating is the way Gardner stays patient and keeps at his job as an unpaid intern. He is also extremely ethical which goes against him at times but doesn’t change him. It proves yet again that will power is all you need to succeed even in extremely adverse conditions.
Catch Me If You Can
Despite being the story of a con man, Catch Me If You Can teaches a lot about business. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, the movie was a crowd-pleaser in so many ways. Frank Abagnale might have been a swindler but he was immensely talented, too. He played the role of a pilot, a doctor, a lawyer, and even a history professor with elan and nobody even suspected anything. Thanks to his intelligence, he swindled people to earn millions even before he turned 19. But the swindling part aside, there are some great insights that entrepreneurs might find useful, especially if they are just starting out. The way he handled each crisis and solved critical problems even under a lot of stress says what a cool and calm-headed person he was. Staying calm even under stress helps us make better decisions and solve problems easily.
Is there any particular movie that you enjoy watching from a business perspective? Do let us know; we can add it to our list as well. As of now, this list of movies can make your weekends quite interesting as well as thought-provoking. Enjoy!
